Here is another great article about some research going on by various researchers who are patterning their robotic creatures after snakes, lobsters, and other animals.
One of the interesting parts to me is the discussion of the gas-powered elephant that was being designed by General Electric in *1968*. Given that technology moves in 80 year cycles with mini 40 year cycles inside, that would get us to the end of the first cycle in 2008 and the end of the second cycle in 2048. Also given the Kurzweilian rate of acceleration, we can probably shorten that second cycle down significantly to about 2028 or even 2020 to achieve what we would normally achieve by 2048 with a linear progression of technology development.
I would say that this means we will have some fantastic robotic animals very soon.
