Has blogging trounced public speaking as the most powerful way to spread your message?

I was digging through Marc Andreesen’s archives looking at his past posts and found this recent one from May 14 that is innocently titled Public Speaking versus blogging.

His key point is that in the old days, you almost HAD to public speak to spread the word and that now you can just blog.

Alan Weiss, arguably one of the world’s most prolific and well-known consulting gurus, often speaks about the gravity that is created through public speaking as well as other channels. It may have been him and it may have been somebody else who invented this phrase that I like: “It’s not who you know that counts, it’s who knows you!”

Has blogging supplanted public speaking as one of the more powerful ways to be heard? I bet it has.
