16th Angel Forum, November 22, 2004 in Vancouver, BC, Canada was a huge success

I did not attend the 16th Angel Forum held in Vancouver, BC, Canada on November 22nd but I got a report back from Bob Chaworth-Musters that it was a great event, with 90 registered investors (including from Denver, Seattle, Edmonton & Calgary, Kelowna and Victoria as well as nearly all Vancouver vc fund managers) listening to 33 companies from BC and Alberta.

Investor Choice Awards:

PWC award for best company: WearAir Oxygen Inc.- Kelowna.

TSX award for #2 company: Vectis Technologies Inc. -Vancouver. I could not find a URL for this except for this North Vancouver company that specializes in lithographic printing technology for the offset printing industry. There is another company with the exact same name in Grand Rapids Michigan that is a Great Plains Accounting Reseller. I would think that people would use Google searches to confirm company names before they actually incorporate. Unless the North Vancouver company and the Michigan company are connected, which simplifies things of course.

Honourable Mention for #3: Plenteus Technologies -Vancouver.

Fourth ranked company: Syntec Biofuel Inc. – Burnaby

Fifth ranked company: Physi-Cal Enterprises – Vancouver. They make Mio sport-watches.

6th & 7th ranked equally:

PowerDisc Development – Chilliwack. This company is building components for fuel cell stacks.

staplesonline – West Van. The West Vancouver based lingerie and silk company built by Kathleen Staples. As for the branding problem, see company #2 above for another example. This one is often mistaken for the online office supply company.

8th & 9th ranked equally:

Advanced Economic – Victoria. I could not find a URL. With the planet as the namespace for companies now (rather than provincial or federal namespaces), it seems all the more important to pick a unique name that is easy to find.

Meta4Hand – Edmonton. This company makes PDA based computer pointing devices (turning a PDA into a wireless mouse and keyboard.)

Congratulations to all of the awarded companies!! The next Angel Forum date has not yet been set but I will post it as soon as I know.
